How To Use Financial FYI

It’s important to understand the basic premise behind Financial FYI, which can be summed up as “We do the work, you get the credit.” Each week we’ll comb through industry newspapers and magazine and post 5 to 10 financial news items onto the site. Then, you in turn can use them in your conversations with clients, prospects, and centers of influence, or copy and paste them into an email communication, website, or newsletter.

We do ask that you call the service Financial FYI and add a link to our site somewhere in the communication and also somewhere on your individual or company website.

Getting started is simple. Just send an email with your name, company name, contact information, and how you heard about us to launch@financialfyi.com and you’ll receive an automated email that you can use to start the program. The email quickly and concisely shares the basics of the program. When the email arrives, cut and paste the text into your own email and then add that week’s Financial FYI underneath it. Use the tips below to manage the program effectively.

It’s important to note that this service is free for individuals, while organizations are required to subscribe to our “Corporate Services” program

Please read and agree to our “Terms of Use” before viewing and using any portion of the website.

Also, please consider “Advertising” with us, “Sponsoring” a Financial FYI news item, or “Donating” to help us continue to create financial awareness and improve financial literacy.

Tips For Effective Use:

Make It Your Own.

This is the most important tip. The whole goal of the program is to make it look like you did the work, so find a way to personalize it. Put your picture on it, create your own logo for it, post comments at the end of it. I created my own logo and you are more than welcome to use it (it’s located at the top of the site and will come in the launch email). Also, I suggested to my advisors when I originally developed Financial FYI that they either asked a relevant question or make a related comment.

A simple questions would be: “Are you sure that your pension is safe?”

A simple comment would be: “Recently more clients have been asking me if their pension is safe. If you have a question about your pension plan, please email me at…”

Never Send More Than Three Financial FYI’s.

Trust me, this is the max. I have sent three, five, and then seven financial news items over different time periods. In the end, the more Financial FYI’s I sent, the fewer responses I got. Three are very easy to read and respond to, so save yourself the experiment and send three or less.

Send It On Monday or Friday Afternoon.

These are times when people are drifting in and out of work sanity and would like any diversion. So be the diversion. Just pick a day and stick with it so people begin to expect and anticipate it.

Don’t Leave Your Computer.  Schedule time to be at your computer after you send the FYI. People will likely respond right away and you’ll want to be there to send back simple replies like “I agree”, “Good point”, “That’s a funny / interesting perspective.”

Good Luck
